چکیده
BANYAY, GREGORY ALLEN, M.S., June 2006, Mechanical Engineering EXAMINATION OF POLYMERIC FOAM AS AN ON-BOARD VEHICULAR HPR HYDROGEN STORAGE MEDIA (113 pp.) Director of Thesis: Bhavin V. Mehta One of the major hurdles to be traversed before a Hydrogen Economy becomes practical, and therefore abundant, is the problem of its storage. An ideal HPR pressure vessel exhibits uniformly sized, spherical cells arranged in a homogeneous fashion. An ideal HPR pressure vessel is probably a feasible option for the automotive industry. Although the ideal microstructure may be sound, the structural integrity of the actual microstructure of polymeric foams was examined. Various polymeric foam samples were obtained and examined via the use of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) imaging and X-ray computed Micro-Tomography (micro-CT). The mechanical behavior of such foams under internal pressure was simulated and analyzed using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). While neither the H130 nor the DF-630A foam structures proved adequate to compete with other current hydrogen storage methods, this work has developed an effective methodology for the examination of polymeric foam for HPR application. متن کاملHydrogen storage capacity of Si-decorated B80 nanocage: firstprinciples DFT calculation and MD simulation
Hydrogen storage capacity of Si-coated B80 fullerene was investigated based on density functional theory calculations within local density approximation and generalized gradient approximation. It is found that Si atom prefer to be attached above the center of pentagon with a binding energy of -5.78 eV. It is inferred that this binding is due to the charge transfer between the Si atom and B80 ca...

متن کاملEnhancement of Hydrogen Storage Behavior of Complex Hydrides via Bimetallic Nanocatalysts Doping
Pristine complex quaternary hydride (LiBH4/2LiNH2) and its destabilized counterpart (LiBH4/2LiNH2/nanoMgH2) have recently shown promising reversible hydrogen storage capacity under moderate operating conditions. The destabilization of complex hydride via nanocrystalline MgH2 apparently lowers the thermodynamic heat values and thus enhances the reversible hydrogen storage behavior at moderate te...

Poly (vinylpyrrolidone)-grafted silica as an organic-inorganic hybrid material was used as an effective heterogeneous polymeric cosolvent catalyst in organic reactions. This modified silica catalyzed nucleophilic displacement of alkyl halides for easy preparation of alkyl thiocyanates, alkyl cyanides, alkyl azides and alkyl aryl ethers. Furthermore, the catalyst was applied for the conversion o...
